Voiceless, in a Starving Inner World

"One of the best mini theses that had pleasure to mark. It is of an exceptionally high standard,
and I would say that it is very close to doctoral level. This is simply an excellent piece of research,
extremely well written and clearly presented. The student names one section as,
"Voiceless,in a starving world", captures the essence of the anorexic & bulimic. The inclusion
of a poem by participant is poignant, beautiful, opens up and reflects the stories of anguish of these
distressed women. The student sets out to investigate whether there is a difference in
symbolic meanings between the anorexic's and the bulimic's troubled relationship with food.
The use of the TAT is novel and highly acceptable in order to tap into the inner and unconscious world
of these participants. This has been achieved. The use of additional data collection in the form of
an interview is also highly commendable as adds more weight to final analysis itself. It is obvious that
there has been deep longing to understand the Object Relations of these conflicted women, and the
student has gone to great lengths to not only be ethical, but remains faithful to the experience of the
participants. So often one reads about themes and data that lack richness and deep respect for the
experience. In this case, the stories and convincing and intense dialogue with stories in the context of very
comprehensive object relations theory/literature are very well done"
